ABOUT

Charlotte is a final year BA (Hons) Fine Art student at the Norwich University of the Arts. Her works are primarily 2D featuring a combination of collage, acrylic paint and digital editing. She produces pieces which centre around feminist issues and taboo subjects surrounding women such as period poverty, female pleasure and unrealistic beauty standards. Charlotte predominently works with the colour pink in order to reclaim and redefine the colour and what it means for women in both the art world and day to day life.

The colour pink in our western culture comes along with many negative connotations such as that it is a ‘girls colour’ and therefore it is weak, childish and lacks power and status. The colour has become gendered and therefore politicised, her work aims to dismantle these ideas and reclaim the colour and with that, what  it means to be a woman in the world.  Her paintings and abstract collages are often developed into digital prints using photoshop and then transitioned into 3D works such as fabrics or hangings. Painting and then ripping up the outcomes to create collage work is a cathartic process for her as she puts her emotions and passion into the works, which then allows for these new, torn up, material to create the layers and depth. She often uses text and word play to add further meaning to the works, these are short and sometimes ambiguous leaving the audience to interpret what it means to them.
